Another all vinyl podcast from me, DJ Version Girl. A friend asked for a copy of a record I played at a show, so I figured I'd embed it into a whole podcast full of unique reggae finds. You might hate these, you might love these, but you'll have to agree that they are interesting. I wanted to do a podcast of songs that challenge the popular beliefs of what reggae is. I had to begin and end with two Asian inspired Leslie Butler tracks.

1. Tae-Kwon-Do - Leslie Butler (Aquarius)
2. It May Sound Silly - Inge Larsen & I-Roy (Moodisc)
3. Single Barrel - Dave & Ansel Collins (Klik)
4. Mr. Finigan - I-Roy & Niney (Observer)
5. Lorna Banana - Junior Byles (Advance)
6. Nefertiti - King Julio Caesar Chavez (African Science)
7. Aunti Lulu - Ranking Trevor (Hit Bound)
8. Chopsticks - The Deltones (Trojan)
9. Anti Christ - Yabby U (Vivian Jackson)
10. Rude Walking - Upsetters (Black Ark)
11. Leggo - Jah Lloyd (Mango)
12. Hell is For Heroes - Big Youth (Negusa Nagast)
13. Muhammad Ali - Dennis Alcapone (Magnet)
14. Coming on the Scene - Johnny & the Attractions (Gay Feet)
15. Ho Chi Min Trail - Leslie Bulter (Black Wax)

I recently recorded a few mixes as promo, all live off my turntables, using only 45s. Here's the third of 3. It starts of pretty early and takes you into the digital age. I didn't do track lists, so if you have any questions about a song, just email me at littlelinguist@aol.com or send me a myspace message.

I recently recorded a few mixes as promo, all live off my turntables, using only 45s. Here's the first of 3. I called it Early Reggae, but some of the songs are newer. If I ever see you in person, I'll give you a CD full of them. My Irish potatoes are stale so it is officially tax season. Here are 50 minutes worth of songs about money to get you in the mood. So find your W-2, organize your receipts, count your deductions, and turn up my podcast. I did this live with Virtual DJ as I usually do, but I'm left handed and always have trouble fixing the gain with my right hand on the mouse. If you can spot the minimal gain issues, I salute you.

I have an almost obsessive love for all things reggae, except dub. I like dub, don't get me wrong, it's just that sometimes it can get a little boring to me. I think the best way that I appreciate it, or that it can be appreciated it to hear a dub in opposition to it's original riddim track. Back to back. So that's what I did with this podcast. I pulled from a limited selection this time so where I don't have the original track, I have an old or well known track. It begins, and ends, with two of my favorite riddims.

1. The Heptones - Love Won't Come Easy
/ Augustus Pablo - Frozen Dub
2. John Holt - Ali Baba
/ King Tubby - Hijack the Barber
3. The Gladiators - Rainy Night in Georgia
/ King Tubby - Dub From the Roots
4. Hypocrite - The Wailers
/ Hypocrite Dub - Sly & Robbie
5. My Woman, 10,000 Gal - Barrington Levy with Kojak & Liza
/ Scientist - Jah is Love
6. Jackie Mittoo - Drum Song
/ King Jammy - Jump Song Dub
7. Johnny Clarke - Death in the Arena
/ Sly & Robbie - Kings of Dub
8. Slim Smith - Everybody Needs Love
/ The Revolutionaries - The Dark Destroyer

Bob inspired me a little to do this one with his recent podcast of wedding tracks he compiled for a friend. I decided to put up a sampling of the songs that were played at my wedding and hopefully inspired any engaged couples. We walked into our ceremony to “Rocksteady Wedding.” Everyone got confused once the actual song picked up, as the intro sounds like the traditional wedding march. But anyone who knows me well, knows I don’t go for traditions. We walked from the ceremony to our dinner seats to “Truly” and performed our first dance to “My Conversation.” After that are some of the songs that were played through dinner and cocktails. “Fever” begins some of the songs that got us dancing. We got married in December, so we had a Christmas themed wedding. In between great reggae songs were some holiday tunes. I’ll break from my usual format around the holidays to play my non-traditional holiday tracks.

1. Rocksteady Wedding – Jackie Mittoo
2. Truly – The Jays
3. My Conversation – The Uniques featuring Slim Smith
4. Right Track – Hopeton Lewis & Phyllis Dillon
5. Come into My Life – Horace Andy
6. Love me Forever – Carlton & the Shoes
7. Round 3 – The Revolutionaries
8. Puchie Lou – Half Pint
9. Love Uprising – The Jamaicans
10. My Girl – The Techniques
11. Fever – Horace Andy
12. I’m Just a Guy – Alton Ellis & Phyllis Dillon
13. Love & Affection – Bob Marley & the Wailers
14. It’s You – Toots & the Maytals
15. Make Me Yours – Phyllis Dillon

I thought it only right that my first podcast be dedicated to the music that made me get more interested in all types of Jamaican music. While some knock 3rd wave ska for being to pop, punk, or core, I hope these songs might change your mind. I begin with some ska-jazz instrumentals, then some songs that were considered "traditional" 3rd wave, then I hit you with a bunch of sweet female vocalists. Perhaps you will hear something that brings back memories or perhaps you youngins only caught the tail end of the wave and are hearing something new.

Feel free to comment, unless it's horrible criticism, then just email me. It's a little over a half hour. Next time, I'll do a straight reggae mix. Request a riddim!
